🏁 How does nonki work with Notion?

We use your Notion databases to generate flashcards. Once you grant nonki access to your Notion account and choose the pages that contain your databases, we’ll create what we call Database Decks. Those will contain your nonki flashcards.

If your Notion page contains multiple databases, each database will be displayed as a Database Deck in nonki.

Before connecting your Notion account to nonki, let’s make sure that your Notion databases are set up correctly.

0️⃣ Create a Page in Notion

We recommend creating a page in Notion that can hold multiple databases that you’d like to use in nonki. This makes it easy to grant access to several databases at once.

In our example above, we created a page called ‘Study Decks’

1️⃣ Set up a Notion Database

Within your new page, create a database to set up your flashcards.

💡 To create a database in Notion, type

/database

in a Notion page to create an inline or full page database. Each row of data will represent one flashcard in nonki.

Creating a database in Notion

Make sure to give your database a title (ex: JLPT N5) so you can easily find it in nonki.

In this example, we’ve added 3 columns to support our Japanese language learning flashcards: one for Hiragana, one for English, and one for Romanji. You can add more columns if required.

We currently support the following property types: Text, Number, Select, and Files & media.

2️⃣ Connect your Notion to your nonki account

Navigate back to nonki and connect to your Notion account

3️⃣ Select the Notion pages to connect

Notion permissions are permitted by “page” and not individual “database”

Select the Notion page that contains the databases you want to connect. You can revoke these permissions at any time.

In our example, we have selected the “Study Decks” page we created above.

4️⃣ You’re ready to use nonki!

You’re all set up! You can continue to add databases to your page and they will be picked up in nonki as new flashcard decks.
